SUNYパーチェス校から本学初の留学生を温かく歓迎

On October 28, 2025, KUIS hosted a warm and informal welcome gathering in the GLA Commons during the lunch break to celebrate the arrival of our first exchange student, Ms. Cassidy Alleyne-Price from the State University of New York at Purchase College, one of the prime destinations for GLA majors seeking to study abroad in their third year at KUIS.

Cassidy, a Painting and Drawing major at Purchase, began with a brief self-introduction, which immediately drew the interest of the nearby KUIS students and faculty members. Students actively asked her about her artistic work, as well as the museums at Purchase that support and showcase the creations of both emerging student artists and professional faculty artists.

The conversation expanded to campus life at SUNY Purchase. Students compared their experiences at KUIS with what Cassidy shared about the vibrant dance scene, party culture, and club activities at Purchase. One notable difference she highlighted was that many American university students belong to multiple clubs. Each semester begins with a large club and organization fair to recruit new members, and students continue exchanging information about events, club activities, and even flea-market items via Instagram.

Thanks to the support of one of GLA’s inaugural graduates, Miu Setoyama (Class of 2025) -- who had recommended KUIS to Cassidy when they were roommates during her study abroad in 2023 -- the exchange has further deepened mutual understanding between our universities. Cassidy shared her own recommendations for life at Purchase, demonstrating the natural two-way connection that is taking shape between the two campuses.

2025年10月28日、本学GLA学部の3年次留学先である、米国・ニューヨーク州立大学パーチェス校（SUNY Purchase College）から、本学に初めて来訪した交換留学生であるCassidy Alleyne-Priceさんを迎えるウェルカム交流会が開催されました。

パーチェス校で絵画・ドローイングを専攻しているCassidyさんは、まず簡単な自己紹介を行い、会場の学生や教職員の関心を一気に引き寄せました。参加した学生たちは、彼女の制作するアート作品や、学生・教員アーティストを支えるパーチェス校内の美術館について積極的に質問していました。

会話は次第にキャンパスライフの話題へと広がりました。KUISの学生は、Cassidyさんが語るパーチェス校でのダンスやパーティー文化、クラブ活動などの活気ある学生生活と自分たちの経験を楽しそうに比較していました。
Cassidyさんによると、アメリカの大学では複数のクラブに所属する学生が多く、学期の初めには大型のクラブ・サークルフェアが開催されるそうです。また、イベント情報やクラブ活動、フリーマーケットの出品情報なども、Instagramを通じて頻繁に共有されているとのことでした。

今回の交流会は、GLA１期生（2025年卒業）で2023年に現地に留学していた瀬戸山美羽さんが、当時ルームメイトだったCassidyさんに本学を紹介したことがきっかけで実現しました。Cassidyさんからも、パーチェス校での生活について学生へさまざまなアドバイスがあり、双方の大学や学生同士の理解がより深まる貴重な機会となりました。
