MESSAGE
Faculty/Student Messages

Highly communicative and proactive
I aim to become a hotel staff member.

Dr. Masami Mizushima

The job of a hotel is to provide guests with the relaxation, excitement, and happy time and space they seek. Therefore, hotel staff must have advanced communication skills to sense the thoughts and feelings hidden in each guest's facial expressions, words, and actions. This is a difficult task for AI. In the International Hotel Department, students will enhance their communication skills with a focus on "the ability to communicate," "the ability to listen," and "the ability to read and understand non-verbal language," as well as acquire specialized knowledge and skills to develop human resources who will be active in hotels both in Japan and abroad in the future.

Can express "Omotenashi Spirit" in English
I aim to be a hotelier.

MORE

Influenced by my mother, an English teacher, I fell in love with English from an early age. I entered the International Hotel Department in order to acquire expertise while learning English. My most memorable experience was the training at British Hills. I struggled at first to work as a service person while using live English, but I gradually got used to it and felt very rewarded when I was thanked by guests. Above all, I will treasure for the rest of my life the fact that I was able to open up to the members who participated in the program with me and build a relationship where we could improve each other's skills. Later, during my third semester of hotel training, I was assigned to the teppanyaki restaurant at The Okura Tokyo. Here, I learned that service staff can become "grillers," and I realized that this was what I wanted to be, as I love cooking. After I start working, my goal is to create a clientele of fans who will come to see me, just like the seniors who helped me during my hotel training. I will do my best to become a hotelier who can bring smiles to the faces of overseas guests by making use of the English skills I have cultivated at Kanda Institute of Languages. I would like to increase my knowledge of Japanese culture and social issues, and in the future, I would like to be transferred to an overseas hotel. I would like to polish my service skills and become a service person who can express "Omotenashi Spirit" in English.

We propose a bridal service based on your stay.
We want to create a hotel that conveys the charm of the land.

MORE

I am a bridal coordinator, which means that I listen to the requests of our customers, propose the details of the wedding ceremony and reception, and am in charge of the wedding until the day of the event. At Risonare Yatsugatake, we propose a style of wedding in which the guests naturally become family while spending time in the town, based on the concept of "a town that becomes a family. After joining the company as a new graduate, I gained experience in all aspects of service at an affiliated hotel in Karuizawa, and have been involved in bridal services since 2018. I have been in contact with more than 1,500 customers so far. What has left a particularly strong impression on me is when a customer told me, "I chose the wedding venue because I met Ms. Sawatani. It was the moment when I realized that I am glad to be doing this job, because he told me that he listened to me the most closely while consulting with me at various venues. In the International Hotel Department, I was able to learn not only about practical business, but also about the hotel business in general, the difference in thinking between Japanese and foreign-affiliated companies, and the industry as a whole. I also gained the positive attitude to talk to people from overseas without hesitation. I became interested in Hoshino Resort during my job hunting. I was attracted by the company's message, "We are looking for your individuality. The company is always willing to comment on what is interesting in response to the opinions of job hunters. I decided to join the company because I felt that in this environment, I could challenge what I wanted to do and grow. My future goal is to become a manager. I would like to work with local people to create a place where I can convey the charm of the area from the hotel.
