Students will learn pronunciation, grammar, writing, conversation, and reading comprehension from Korean instructors in a well-balanced manner. Music, news, movie and drama scenarios are also covered in class. Many of the texts used for reading are about Korean culture, and students will acquire cultural knowledge as they read. We also focus on preparing students to acquire qualifications and to transfer to universities in other countries.

Study Abroad in Korea under the "Cooperative Education Program

We have partnerships with nine Korean universities, and students who meet certain criteria can transfer to a third-year university after graduation. Students who meet the university's application requirements may also transfer to universities outside of the partnership.

In the Korean language course, classes are reorganized in the second semester of the first year and the second year. Students can study in classes according to their proficiency level. In addition, from the first semester of the second year, students are divided into two majors: the "Language Major" and the "Korean University Transfer Major.

My mother's roots are in Korea and I became interested in the Korean language. All the teachers in the department are Korean, and they are just so cheerful and easy to talk to. I liked the conversation class the best and had the opportunity to give a presentation in Korean about the cultural differences between Japan and Korea. I participated in FLL about three times a week, where the department teachers provided learning support. It is a 90-minute free talk in all Korean with friends and teachers. There was also a preparation session for the Korean Language Proficiency Test (TOPIK), and I was able to easily ask questions that were difficult to ask in class. Thanks to this, I obtained the TOPIK level 5 in the spring of my sophomore year, and now I am aiming to obtain the highest level, level 6. I also have good memories of online exchanges with students from partner universities in Korea. I was struggling to keep up with EIC, where we had to speak only English for 90 minutes at first, but the topics we covered were interesting and I looked forward to class every day. Through group work and presentations, I feel that my ability to convey my thoughts in front of others has improved dramatically. After graduation, I will put my Korean and English skills to good use and work at a department store. I want to become a salesperson that foreign customers will say, "I want to be served by you again.

Longing to become a social worker, I entered the psychology department of a university. However, I could not get used to the loose atmosphere and gradually began to drift away. Thinking about what I really wanted to do, what came to mind was "Korean language." After one year, I dropped out of university and enrolled in this course. Many students like me liked Korean entertainment culture such as K-POP and TV dramas, and we quickly became friends. They were all enthusiastic students who really wanted to learn the language, and I was very much inspired. I was very much inspired by them. The teachers were also very passionate, and I felt their love even in the midst of their strictness. After graduation, I transferred to Sogang University in Seoul for my junior year. I received generous support from the teachers in charge of transferring to the university, such as with procedures for transferring to the university and correcting my personal statement. I received a near perfect score on the Korean writing test immediately after my study abroad, a moment that made me realize that my Korean language skills had been strengthened considerably over the two years.
At the time of graduation, I was able to obtain the highest level of the Korean Language Proficiency Test (TOPIK), Level 6. Classes at Sogang University are basically conducted in Korean, but there are also many lectures in English. I had improved my TOEIC® score to 720 at Kanda Institute of Languages, so I am very glad that I studied both languages well. I will graduate from university this spring and return to Japan to work for a company that manages Korean artists' activities in Japan. I will have many opportunities to use Korean, such as interpreting at events and translating media, so I would like to put my four years of learning to good use.
