Internal transfer into the English major program.
This goal is what keeps me motivated to continue learning English.

When my university entrance exams didn’t go as planned, my homeroom teacher recommended KIFL. I did consider enrolling in the English Major Program right away, but I felt that the “internal transfer to the English Major Program”—an intermediate step—would allow me to steadily improve my skills while keeping my goal in sight, so I chose the English Foundation Program. This program brings together students of various ages and English proficiency levels.During breaks, I’d see students trying their hardest to speak English even if their grammar wasn’t perfect, as well as students who already had a high level of English proficiency. Seeing them motivated me time and again to push myself harder. My older classmates, who were also aiming for internal transfer, and I would compete with each other on our TOEIC® scores, which kept us all inspired.I really felt my progress in listening, in particular. When I first enrolled, I could barely understand the English spoken by foreign instructors. As I took weekly quizzes, I remember how, after about three months, I gradually began to feel that I could “hear” the English—a sensation that still sticks with me today.
When you hear “Foundation Program,” you might imagine that you’ll only be learning the basics. But in reality, many classes are held jointly with students from other courses, creating an environment where you can seriously improve your English skills while drawing plenty of inspiration from those around you. I have now transferred into the second year of the English Major program—which was my original goal—and am aiming to advance to Kanda University of International Studies, our sister institution. At university, I plan to aim for a TOEIC® score of 800 while also taking on the challenge of learning Korean, a language I’ve long been interested in. I recommend this course to anyone who is undecided between the English major and other options but wants to focus on English first and study it thoroughly.
