Academic Advisor, Kanda College of Foreign Languages; Film Subtitle Translator
Natsuko Toda Ms.

Driven by a single-minded desire to “work on subtitles for my favorite movies,” I continued studying English, and it took me 20 years to reach a point where I could make a living as a subtitle translator.
Movie subtitle translation is a profound craft that involves not only conveying meaning accurately but also understanding the characters’ emotions and crafting compelling Japanese within a limited character count.
The path to your dreams may sometimes be thorny. Even so, continuing to learn as you pursue your dreams enriches your life. KIFL is equipped with foreign instructors who teach “living foreign languages,” as well as the latest facilities and teaching materials. It would be a shame not to take full advantage of such a privileged environment. Please study with passion as you work toward your dreams.

Born July 3, 1936, in Tokyo. Graduated from Tsuda College with a degree in English. After working in the corporate sector and other fields, she became a film subtitle translator. She has translated subtitles for over 1,500 foreign films, including *Apocalypse Now*, *E.T.*, *Titanic*, *Back to the Future*, and the *Mission: Impossible* series.
