Introducing my hometown!ーVanessa Gongora

Hello everyone! I’m Vanessa and I am from Barcelona, the second-largest city in Spain. I teach Advanced English Reading and Media English at Kanda University.

皆さんこんにちは、ヴァネッサです。私はスペインで2番目に大きな街、バルセロナの出身です。神田外語大学では「Advanced English Reading」と「Media English」を教えています。

My hobbies are reading, socialising with friends, going to the cinema and cooking. This is my second year in Japan. I love travelling around the country and discovering beautiful spots like Ishigaki, Nikko, and Kyoto.

私の趣味は読書や友人との交流、また映画を観たり料理をしたりすることです。日本での生活は2年目となり、各地を旅行し、石垣島や日光、京都のような美しい場所を見つけることが大好きです。

I only experienced onsen for the first time in Japan. I have been to a few onsen so far and absolutely loved the experience—especially in Gunma!

日本で初めて温泉を体験してから、これまでにいくつかの温泉を訪れましたが、特に群馬の温泉は最高でした！

My hometown of Barcelona is situated on the northeast coast of Spain, facing the Mediterranean Sea. Barcelona is well-known for its food.

バルセロナにある故郷はスペインの北東海岸に位置し、地中海に面しています。バルセロナは食事が有名です。

One example is “Pa amb tomàquet”(Pan con tomate). It is made of bread, which is normally toasted, with tomato rubbed over and seasoned with olive oil, salt and sometimes garlic. Barcelona is also well-known for its modernist landmarks designed by Antoni Gaudi.

例えば「Pa amb tomàquet」があります。これはトーストしたパンにトマトを塗って、オリーブオイルと塩、ニンニクで味付けをしたものです。またバルセロナはガウディがデザインしたモダンな観光名所としても有名です。

If you have a chance to visit Barcelona, I recommend that you enjoy the traditional food and drinks, get lost in the Gothic quarter (the historical centre and the oldest part of the city) and La Ribera quarter, where you will find one of the most beautiful gothic churches in Europe -the Church of Santa Maria del Mar-;

もしバルセロナに行く機会があれば、伝統的な食事と飲み物を楽しむのがおすすめです。そして、ゴシック地区（歴史の中心で最古の街並みが残る）は迷うほどたくさんの見どころがあり、ラ リベラ地区にはヨーロッパで一番美しいゴシック様式の教会である「サンタマリアデルマール教会」があります。

visit Gaudi’s modernist buildings (la Sagrada Familia, la Casa Batlló, la Pedrera, el Park Güell); and join the locals in a “terraza” (terrace) whilst having a “vermu” (aperitif) and a tapa (or two) at noon.

またガウディのモダニスト建築（サグラダファミリア、カサ・バトリョ、カサ・ミラ、グエル公園）に訪れたり、お昼には「vermu」（食前酒）とタパスを楽しみながら地元の人々とテラスで交流することもできます。

※文中にでてきたバルセロナで有名な Pan con tomate(スペイン語) ですが、バルセロナがあるカタルーニャ地方は主にカタルーニャ語が話されているため Pa amb tomàquet と表記されています。
