The KUIS Self-access Learning Centre (SALC) is a facility equipped with semi-guided learning materials which learners use to further their own study at their own pace. Learners identify their own needs (or receive needs guidance from their teacher or the SALC Learning Advisors) and then choose which materials they wish to use to address these needs. Learners are able to correct their own work and evaluate their own performance and by doing so direct and plan their own learning.
Through self-access study, learners develop skills in self-directed and cooperative learning, which promote independent life-long learning of language. The Self-access Learning Centre encourages learners to be accountable for their own learning and take the necessary steps to self-improve.
The Self-access Learning Centre fosters enthusiasm for learning foreign languages and strives to educate learners on using a variety of media to suit their learning needs. They may work alone, with other learners, or with the guidance and support of the Learning Advisors.
The Self-access Learning Centre offers opportunities for enhancement to the whole university community. Undergraduates, post-graduates, and both teaching and administrative staff are encouraged to use the resources.
The Self-access Learning Centre aims to provide materials and facilities relevant to academic communication and specialist studies in all departments of the university, as well as catering to broader professional and social/personal needs.
