Research

In addition to being a centre for supporting students' learning, the SALC is also a research hub. Research underpins everything we do in the SALC and helps us to provide the best support for our learners. Some current projects include:

How do self-directed language learners keep going?

A longitudinal study related to motivation and self-directed learning.

Developing, implementing and evaluating an iPad app for self-directed learning

An action research project which guides the development of a custom-made module app.

Investigating evidence of learning through SALC Modules

A mixed-methods, longitudinal project looking at the degree to which SALC modules help learners to develop self-directed learning skills (as indicated by the SALC learning outcomes).

Developing a peer advising programme

A multi-stage, action research project investigating the development of a peer advising program. The project will also track the effectiveness of the programme over time.
