Our journey began with the strong conviction of our founder, who, amidst the postwar ruins, believed that “for Japan’s reconstruction, the communication skills of young people capable of interacting with the world on an equal footing are indispensable.”Since then, we have consistently pursued “communicative English education”—distinct from grammar-centered approaches—and have continued to take on new challenges as a “nonconformist” institution always at the forefront of the times.
We are currently at a major turning point. With the evolution of AI, we have entered an era where knowledge and translations are readily available. At a time when the very nature of language education is being questioned, we are redefining the “value of real-world experience.” We believe that a school should not merely be a place for imparting knowledge, but rather a “venue for conveying value”—where students build trust through dialogue with others and gain insights from real-world experiences.
A symbolic example of this approach is our “Business Internship,” which is mandatory for all students.Faced with real-world challenges faced by companies, students conduct their own fieldwork, formulate their own opinions, and deliver presentations in front of professionals. Through this process, they cultivate the “ability to solve problems in their own words”—a skill that cannot be replaced by AI-driven learning.
Furthermore, by actively welcoming international students from diverse backgrounds, we have created an environment where multiple languages and cultures intersect on a daily basis, accelerating our transition toward a “global campus.” Here, through group work conducted in both Japanese and English, students complement each other’s strengths and weaknesses, fostering a deep sense of mutual respect. We believe this is the very embodiment of the “multicultural society” we strive to create.
To all of you who have a strong determination to “truly change yourselves”: Kanda Foreign Language College is ready to maximize your potential and send you out into society with confidence. Let’s work together here to build “future academic ability” that transcends the framework of standardized test scores.

President, Kanda Institute of Languages
Motoyasu Sano

Message from the Dean

Discover the Power to Shape the Future at Kanda Foreign Language College
— 70 Years of Evolving with the Times —

Since its founding in 1957, Kanda Foreign Language College has continually addressed the changing times by asking, “What kind of learning will be required in the society of the future?” and has shaped the education needed for each era.
During the period of rapid economic growth, the college took the lead among educational institutions by developing specialized programs in international hospitality that combined English with business studies. Furthermore, in the 1990s, anticipating an increasingly borderless society, the college established courses where students could study regional languages such as Chinese, Korean, French, and Spanish alongside English.Furthermore, aiming to cultivate professionals capable of thriving in a digital society despite being a liberal arts institution, we have broadened the scope of our education by establishing departments such as Multimedia and Digital Creators. These initiatives have been carried forward into our current Digital Information Course.
Now, as we celebrate our 70th anniversary, our university has adopted a new mission: to realize a “Global Campus” where people from diverse backgrounds—regardless of nationality, age, or background—respect one another, learn together, and grow together. We are advancing our evolution toward the future in both software and hardware aspects, from the content of our education to the learning spaces themselves.
On our campus, which brings together students from more than 20 countries around the world, multiple languages are spoken daily in classrooms, hallways, and student lounges, and students can be seen learning from one another. The experience of collaborating with peers from different cultures and with different values provides an irreplaceable learning opportunity that cannot be gained from textbooks alone.
As times have changed, the content of our education and the ways we learn have evolved. At the same time, what we have consistently cherished is an educational philosophy of “sincerely engaging with each individual’s life and taking responsibility for their growth.” This is not only the stance of our college but also the conviction I have held dear above all else in my own work as an educator.
Our faculty and staff, who share this philosophy, are waiting for you.
In this milestone year marking our 70th anniversary, I sincerely hope that you will take your first step toward a new future here at our academy.
With great anticipation for the future that begins here for each of you.

Dean, Kanda Institute of Languages
Minoru Imai

Words are the foundation of peace that connects the world We have moved with the development and internationalization of Japan, and always provide an educational environment that keeps an eye on the times.
