Here is the order you should be following when learning a second language:

      1. Watch lips, tongue and jaw movements
      2. Observe facial expression and body language
      3. Listen intensively paying careful attention to the sounds, intonation, rhythm and stress
      4. Assess situation and be aware of context
      5. Use your knowledge and memory of similar situations
      6. Recognize the structure and use of language
      7. Use the mind to put 2 and 2 together; that is what would be idiomatically said in your first language in a similar situation and infer natural grammar rules
      8. Practice until you can reproduce exactly the same sounds and start interacting with people
