Learning Advisory Support

Language is a communicative tool and the learning advisory service in the SALC aims to support learners in their language learning through dialogue and communication. By talking with learners about their needs, objectives, processes, successes and weaknesses, the learning advisors help learners to develop an insight into their own learning and thereby foster life-long learning skills.

The learning advisory service in the SALC is unique. Kanda University of International Studies has a team of 11 dedicated learning advisors (LAs) who are available all day, from Monday to Saturday, to support learners with their individual language learning needs. All of the LAs have Master’s degrees in TESOL, Applied linguistics or similar and have also undergone extensive training in advising which is conducted in-house. LAs can help students with some of the following:

  • -ways to manage self-directed learning
  • -self-evaluation
  • -language wants, interests and needs
  • -learning strategies and learning resources
  • -motivation

Learners can come and talk to an advisor alone or with a friend. It's possible to see a learning advisor just once with a specific enquiry (such as how to use SALC facilities) or to meet regularly to discuss long-term learning plans (such as how to improve your listening skills for communicating with colleagues and classmates).
Learning advisory support is available to ANY students learning English or other languages. There are two ways of getting advice: by just dropping in or by making a reservation.
